where does your story end?

announcements

  • new moon candle - i finally started a baby candle this morning. i felt both like i wasn’t ready and that i missed the moment.

  • future candles - i’m going to learn from the last two and stop scheduling candles. instead, i’ll be following a more intuitive schedule to try to find the cycle or energy that makes more sense these days.

opening “prayer”

friday sermon

i’m still thinking about stories. specifically this quote:

“if you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story."

orson welles

it comes to mind at various times. i think of it when life feels impossible. it reminds me that there are ups and downs and neither lasts forever. someday, it will be better.

i think of it when i reminisce on the complexities of life. how can i have both wonderful and horrible memories of a person or time? when they’re put together, they follow a storyline. only with the distance of time do i have enough perspective to understand it.

i think of it when i relearn the same lesson. i wonder why i’m repeating my own mistakes, but then i see how each time i learn the lesson a little differently so that eventually, it will be easier to see and navigate.

i think of it when i consider the stories of others, from friends to fictional characters on tv or in books. i look at how things could have gone if they’d allowed a story to end earlier or wonder how it will play out in the future. that’s where i find hope.

closing “prayer”

please listen to the podcast for another bit of meditation-style energy work to close out the energy.

may we remember to zoom out and look at the stories in our lives so we can appreciate each chapter.

so mote it be.
